PLANO – Today, Representative Jeff Leach announced his “Education Tour," including plans to personally visit each public school campus in House District 67 prior to the 86th Legislature, which commences on January 8, 2019. House District 67, which is comprised of portions of Plano, Allen, Richardson and Dallas in Collin County, is home to 47 public school campuses within Allen and Plano Independent School Districts, including one Early Childhood Development Center, one Family Literacy Center, one Hospital Homebound Facility, three Charter Schools, twenty seven Elementary Schools, seven Middle Schools, and seven High Schools. As part of his Education Tour, Representative Leach is also making plans to visit private schools, parochial schools, special education centers and homeschool families.

"As a public policymaker, I have a duty and obligation to proactively seek counsel from parents, educators and students to fully understand and grasp the pressing opportunities and challenges facing our state," stated Representative Leach. "Since taking the oath of office, visiting our schools and going into our classrooms has been one of the most enjoyable parts of my job. With public education at the forefront of the 86th Legislative Session, I am confident that this Education Tour will serve as an invaluable opportunity for me to listen, learn from and ultimately serve the needs of our educators and students - which is what I am elected to do."

John Montgomery, Vice President of the Allen Independent School District Board of Trustees, welcomed Representative Leach’s announcement by issuing the following statement: “As a School Board Member, I look forward to continuing to work with Representative Leach and other policymakers to ensure that education is at the top of the list of priorities for the 86th Legislative Session. As a product of public schools and a parent of children in our public schools, Representative Leach understands the need to collaborate on the multitude of issues facing our educators, students and their families. Whether it is his HD67 Student Leadership Advisory Council, his Education Roundtables or this, his commitment to visit every public school in his District, I am more convinced than ever that he desires to fully understand the pressing challenges facing our schools and that he will be well equipped to deliver for our district in the next session and beyond.”

Dr. Yoram Solomon, Ph.D, Member of the Board of Trustees for Plano Independent School District issued the following statement in response to this announcement: “I am thrilled that Representative Leach recognizes the importance of personally visiting our campuses in an effort to fully grasp the challenges facing our students and educators. I look forward to continuing to partner with him and his staff, as we have done in recent years, to ensure that education is at the forefront of the issues to be addressed next session.
