State Rep. Jim Murphy Hosts Third Bi-Annual Event for Teens

Houston, TX - State Representative Jim Murphy will host the 2018 West Houston Teen Leadership Summit on February 10th from 8:30am to 2:30pm. The unique summit connects area high school sophomores and juniors with local, statewide, and national leaders, from top level executives to ranking politicians.

Highlighting the list of distinguished speakers are Harris County Judge Ed Emmett, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, former U.S. Ambassador to Qatar Chase Untermeyer, FOX 26 News anchor Melissa Wilson, and Harris County Flood Control Meteorologist Jeff Lindner.

Other participants include: Lauren Berryhill, Donna Bahorich, Jeannie Bollinger, Bryan Collier, Dale Craymer, Chris Daniel, Councilman Jerry Davis, Sherry Fox, Dr. Neil Frank, Dr. Jim Granato, Representative Ana Hernandez, Patrick Jankowski, Judge Michael Landrum, Linda Lorelle, Judge Debra Mayfield, Pam McGinnis, Mayor Brian Muecke, Mayor Tom Ramsey, Councilman David Robinson, Tim Stone, Bill Thorne, Councilman Greg Travis, and Representative James White.

The summit opens with one-on-one professional networking advice from community leaders. The day continues with a mix of panel discussions and small group sessions. Panelists will engage teens on topics such as Business, Politics, Media, and Personal Leadership. Teens will personally select two topics for small group discussion from issues of school finance, climate change, taxation, and modern career paths.

This year's event is expected to be at full capacity, exceeding two hundred participants from nearly 20 West Houston high schools. It is free of charge to all participants.

State Representative Jim Murphy represents District 133, West Houston. First elected in 2006, Murphy serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Special Purpose Districts and is a member of the Ways & Means Committee. Murphy also serves as Floor Leader for the House Caucus.
