Chairman James White Supportive of Call for School Finance and Teacher Benefits Reform
(Austin, TX) - State Representative James White is encouraged to see the items added to the call for a special session. Among those items are priorities for the citizens of Southeast Texas such as school finance reform and increased benefits for current and retired teachers. Rep. White is enthusiastic that the call includes these items that will give the Legislature another opportunity to help the public education system.
“Immediately after the end of the regular session, I urged Governor Abbott to call the Legislature back for a special session to address school finance. I am thankful that he did that upon the passage of the medical agencies sunset legislation from the Senate, and that he has added retired teacher health insurance. Due to legislative inaction since 1995 and disastrous recent national health care policy, active and retired teachers have joined the ranks of other hard working Southeast Texans in experiencing skyrocketing health insurance costs,” said Rep. White.
