Roberts Makes Nomination For Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program
HOUSTON – State Representative Kevin Roberts has formally nominated David Casagrande for the Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program. This scholarship program benefits students who have been nominated by the Governor, Lt. Governor, State Representative, or State Senator and intend to participate in the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) programs while attending a Texas college. In addition, these students must meet specific eligibility criteria in order to receive an initial award, including a high school GPA of at least 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale and being ranked in the top third of their high school graduating class.
“In Texas, we take great pride in preparing the next generation of leaders for the country,” said Representative Kevin Roberts. “The Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program is one of the ways that Texans are able to say thank you to those who have dedicated themselves to service in defense of our country."
The recipients of the scholarship for the upcoming 2017-18 school year will receive up to $4,000.
"It is such an honor to be nominated for the Texas Armed Services Scholarship, which will allow me to graduate debt-free! Receiving this scholarship will help me pay for room & board at Texas A&M, since my Air Force ROTC scholarship will cover tuition and fees. I am so thankful to Representative Kevin Roberts for nominating me for this scholarship, and I hope to someday help make this world a better place," said David Casagrande.
Casagrande, a 2017 graduate of Klein Oak High School, plans to study International Relations at Texas A&M, as well as Arabic and Russian. He graduated with a 4.33 GPA, in the top 27-percent of his graduating class, and a member of Klein Oak's National Honor Society. He was also a member of the school's Air Force Junior ROTC program and the school's orchestra, in addition to achieving the ranks of Eagle Scout through the Boy Scouts of America. Upon graduation from Texas A&M, he hopes to have a career in intelligence in the United States Air Force, and someday wants to be a diplomat.
"David is an extraordinary member of our House District 126 community and I look forward to seeing all that he will accomplish. I am proud to be able to nominate him for the 2017 Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program," said Representative Kevin Roberts.
