FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 05/24/2017
Rep. Arévalo is Pleased to Announce that House Bill 1081, to increase access to New Instructional Facilities Allotment, Passes the Texas Senate
Austin, Texas - On Tuesday, May 24, 2017, Representative Arévalo's House Bill 1081 (H.B. 1081) passed the Texas Senate with bipartisan support. H.B. 1081 expands eligibility for the New Instructional Facilities Allotment (NIFA), which provides financial support to schools opening new facilities. Current law limits eligibility for the New Instructional Facilities Allotment to newly constructed schools. However, with the passage of H.B. 1081, more schools will have to access funding which will allow them to expand their institutions of learning.
"As a freshman legislator, I'm very excited that my first piece of legislation to pass both chambers is one that will benefit schools in my district and all across Texas. By expanding access to financial resources, more academic institutions will have the necessary funding to improve their facilities. This bill allocates existing funds to reach more kids in Texas."
