Rep. Cortez Expands Voting Access for Deployed Service Members

AUSTIN – Today, State Representative Philip Cortez, District 117 passed House Bill 1414. The bill allows military personnel overseas receiving hostile fire pay to vote through email. Since the 83rd Legislature, the eBallot program has only been utilized in Bexar County. The initial pilot program may now be instituted in all counties across the state of Texas.

Rep. Cortez released the following statement:

"As someone who proudly serves this country in the U.S. Air Force, it is an honor for me to continue to stand up for our nation's finest who fight to protect our freedoms and quality of life. I am glad to see a program that has aided the servicemen and women of Bexar County expanded to counties across the state of Texas. As state representative, I have made a priority of doing whatever I can to ensure our service members, as well as our veterans, are given the gratitude their service has earned them."

House Bill 1414 will guarantee the right to vote for our citizens who are fighting for that very right every single day.
