Texas House Supports Priority CPS Reform by Wu
AUSTIN, TX – Today the Texas House gave preliminary approval of House Bill 7 and will consider House Bill 39 tomorrow, both authored by Representative Gene Wu. Respectively, the legislation will reform the state's child welfare system by streamlining both the legal and administrative processes to reduce trauma among children and families and improve reunification efforts. Rep. Wu released the following statement:
"We have been working for over a year and a half with numerous stakeholders to get this right. The bills are a product of input from attorneys, judges, caseworkers, and other child welfare policy experts. We incorporated CPS legislative proposals from many of my colleagues in the House, and I am proud of the bipartisan support we received. If we successfully pass these bills, Texas can be proud of the comprehensive approach we took to reform a broken system in the best interest of children and families."
