Representative Nevárez Appointed to Influential Committees for 85th Texas Legislature
Austin, TX -- Today Speaker Joe Straus announced committee assignments on the House floor. Representative Poncho Nevárez was assigned to the Calendars Committee, General Investigating and Ethics Committee, Natural Resources Committee, and will continue to serve as Vice-Chair of Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee.
The Calendars Committee has jurisdiction over the placement of bills on the major state calendar and general calendar. The General Investigating and Ethics Committee has jurisdiction over all matters pertaining to the conduct of and ethical standards applicable to state and local government officials and employees. The Natural Resources Committee has jurisdiction over all matters pertaining to the conservation of natural resources, including the appropriation and allocation of all water in the state. The Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee has jurisdiction regarding all matters that pertain to law enforcement, crime, terrorism response, and disaster mitigation. Representative Nevárez looks forward to returning as Vice-Chair of the committee alongside the Chairman, Representative Phil King.

Representative Alfonso “Poncho” Nevárez is currently serving his third term as the State Representative for House District 74, which includes the counties of Brewster, Culberson, Hudspeth, Jeff Davis, Kinney, Loving, Maverick, Pecos, Presidio, Reeves, Terrell, and Val Verde.
