El Paso Lawmaker eager to get to work on Economic and International Issues

AUSTIN – Today, House Speaker Joe Straus released his committee appointments for the 85th Legislative Session. Representative Lina Ortega was appointed to three committees: Economic & Small Business Development, International Trade & Intergovernmental Affairs, and the Select Committee on Texas Ports, Innovation & Infrastructure.

“These committee assignments are closely aligned with the priorities of my district and the entire State,” Rep. Ortega said.

“My work on the Economic & Small Business Development Committee will primarily relate to the following areas: development and support of small businesses, economic and industrial expansion, unemployment compensation, labor unions, and workforce training. The International Trade & Intergovernmental Affairs Committee will cover trade, tourist development, public health and safety issues affecting the border, and relations between Texas and other nations. Lastly, as a member of the Speaker’s Select Committee on Texas Ports, Innovation & Infrastructure, I will examine our ports’ infrastructure, as well as the innovation and economic opportunities they present.”

Committees will begin meeting regularly in the coming weeks.
