SIMMONS APPOINTED TO HOUSE COMMITTEES ON APPROPRIATIONS, TRANSPORTATION, AND LOCAL & CONSENT CALENDARS
AUSTIN – On Thursday, the Texas House of Representatives announced committee appointments for the 85th Legislative Session. State Representative Ron Simmons (Carrollton) was appointed to serve on three committees: the House Committees on Appropriations, Transportation, and Local & Consent Calendars.
"I am honored to serve the people of Texas on these important committees," Simmons said upon hearing of his committee appointments. On being appointed to the House Appropriations committee, Simmons said, "As a small business owner in the private sector, I have years of experience in helping my company and clients invest their money in the wisest way possible. I look forward to having the chance to do this on the Appropriations Committee as we seek to wisely allot the funds lent to us by the taxpayers of this great state."
Of his re-appointment to the House Committee on Transportation, to which he was originally appointed to during the 84th Legislative Session in 2015, Simmons said, "To be able to continue with the work I was able to do in passing House Bill 20 and finding solutions for Texas' ever-growing transportation infrastructure needs will be a joy." Simmons continued, "I have spent many hours studying transportation issues all over the state for the past few years, and I am honored by the trust that has been placed in me to continue that work."
The Local & Consent Calendars Committee considers local and non-controversial bills at least 48 hours prior to the session in which they will be placed upon the calendar for the House's consideration. Simmons concluded, "These committee assignments all present an exciting opportunity to serve as a voice for my constituents on issues that are critical not only to House District 65, but to the entire state of Texas."
