Rep. Bailes Files First Bill Designed to Honor Constituent
AUSTIN, TX - State Representative Ernest Bailes has filed House Bill (HB) 1028 to honor the life of a constituent that was killed by a hit-and run driver in 2015.
HB 1028 will require the Texas Department of Transportation to designate FM 2666 in San Jacinto County as the Josey Scott Memorial Highway and erect markers at each end of the highway. The bill is just one of several legislative ideas that will be filed on behalf of the constituents of House District 18.
On February 10, 2015, Josey Scott, a local Shepherd resident, was struck and killed by a hit-and run driver while she was jogging along FM 2666. Ms. Scott lived a fulfilling life and left an unforgettable imprint in the lives of the people she encountered.
"I am incredibly humbled to file this legislation as my first bill for the 85th Legislative Session," said Representative Bailes. "HB 1028 has two goals; to honor the joyous life Josey Scott led and to promote hit-and run awareness. I look forward to presenting this bill to my colleagues and seek its successful passage."
Representative Bailes is serving his first term in the Texas House of Representatives, encompassing Liberty, San Jacinto, and Walker counties.
