Mary Gonzalez Files Bill To Create Illegal Tire Dumping Enforcement Program
El Paso, Texas- Today, State Representative Mary Gonzalez filed House Bill 489 to create an illegal tire dumping enforcement program. H.B.489 will allow for a fee to fund grants for local law enforcement agencies to enforce of illegal tire dumping laws.
“Illegal tire dumping is a health, safety, and environmental hazard. Thousands of tires are dumped in East El Paso County alone, providing an environment for Zika and other diseases to spread. By providing funds needed to truly address the problem, we can get closer to living in a cleaner and safer environment,” said Rep. Gonzalez.
Representative Gonzalez hosted her 4th tire clean-up event on Saturday, December 3rd in Agua Dulce/Horizon City. In 2016, her office has removed over 7,000 tires from East El Paso County
“My office has been fortunate to have many partners in our Tire Clean-Up initiatives. While it is important that we organize projects to alleviate the problem in the short term, we need to work to create sustainable solutions for the long term" added Rep. Gonzalez.
