"With City Wide's kickoff on Monday, we are one step closer to providing a true second-chance for hundreds of Dallas inmates," Rep. Giddings said. "Now that the agreement has been finalized, the hard work of working with inmates and community members begins."
Through an intensive process of collaboration between the City of Dallas and local non-profits, faith based groups, and private sector entities, City Wide was one of two organizations tapped with the responsibility of carrying out the program's mission.
The pilot program will allocate $464,440 to City Wide Community Development Corporation and $535,560 to the Texas Offender Reentry Initiative (T.O.R.I.), who will work in tandem to implement the state's objective in connecting inmates with relevant job preparation and opportunities.
"More than 70,000 people are released each year from Texas prisons, with about 15 percent returning to Dallas County," Rep. Giddings said. "Everyone in our county benefits when these persons are successfully reintegrated into the community as productive, tax paying citizens. Investing in true rehabilitation is a service to our entire community."
Representative Helen Giddings proudly serves the cities of House District 109: Dallas, DeSoto, Cedar Hill, Glenn Heights, Hutchins, Lancaster, Wilmer, as well as part of Duncanville.
