State Representative Ed Thompson nominates Kirby Lambert for the Texas Armed Services Scholarship
AUSTIN – Representative Ed Thompson announced today the House District 29 nomination of Kirby Lambert for the Texas Armed Services Scholarship. Lambert, an Alvin resident, is a magna cum laude graduate of the Alvin High School Class of 2016.
The Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program (TASSP) provides financial opportunities for dedicated students seeking a college education and a career in military service. The TASSP encourages students to participate in the Texas Guard, Army National Guard, or Air National Guard, or to become commissioned officers in the United States Armed Services. The scholarship provides recipients with awards of up to $10,000 per academic year for up to four years toward undergraduate education at any Texas university with an active ROTC program. Lambert, daughter of Roger Lee and Leonora Lambert, will be a freshman at Texas A&M University where she will pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering.
Lambert is an intern for the Houston Medical Center Thermal Energy Corporation and aspires to serve in the United States Military Reserves. She completed her core curriculum at Alvin Community College through the Dual Credit Program.
"Miss Lambert already has an impressive resume that includes significant awards, service to her community and is anything short of amazing. I am humbled by her determination to serve our country, and her strong leadership," said Rep. Thompson. "She is an incredibly intelligent and driven individual with a bright future ahead, and I am glad to nominate her for the TASSP scholarship."
To receive the scholarship, a student must be appointed by a state legislator or by the Governor or Lieutenant Governor, meet the academic eligibility requirements, enroll in ROTC and agree to complete four years of training, graduate in no more than six years, and enter into a four-year commitment with any branch of the armed services following graduation.
