Rep. Donna Howard Applauds Addition of House Interim Charges on School Finance System
Austin Lawmaker Eager to Roll Up Her Sleeves and Find School Funding Solutions
AUSTIN - Today, following the Speaker's directive for two House Committees to jointly study key aspects of the state's school finance system and make recommendations before the next legislative session, Rep. Donna Howard released the following statement:
"Today's announcement comes as a welcome response to the recent Texas Supreme Court ruling on school finance which affirmed that, though our current system meets minimum constitutional requirements, the funding mechanism is ‘imperfect, with immense room for improvement.'
"As a member of the Appropriations Committee, as well as the Article III Subcommittee which considers education funding, I am grateful that the House will be using valuable time during the interim to determine and discuss potential school finance recommendations for the upcoming 85th legislative session.
"I am ready to join my fellow committee members and move past partisanship, look beyond our local districts, and find a school finance solution which works for all Texas children."
