REPRESENTATIVE JIM MURPHY AWARDED DIAMOND LEADERSHIP AWARD BY THE HOUSTON WEST CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

Houston, TX -- State Representative Jim Murphy was honored at the Annual Houston West Chamber of Commerce Diamond Leadership Awards. The Chamber presented Murphy with their highest honor, the Diamond Leadership Award. The award is presented by the Chamber to one leader each year based on their demonstrated initiative, creativity, and dedication to the improvement of the community and businesses.
President and CEO of the Chamber, Jeannie Bollinger remarked “The Houston West Chamber was honored to recognize Representative Murphy for his work as General Manager of the Westchase District and State Legislator for the West Houston region. His leadership in our community has created positive, palpable growth for business and lead to improved quality of life."

"I am honored to be recognized for my service to the State of Texas. It is particularly gratifying to be presented with an award by the preeminent business organization in West Houston", says Murphy.

The event is held each year in conjunction with The Executive Council and the West Houston Leadership Institute. Each organization chooses their award recipient based on their individual criteria. Other awardees for 2015 included the Houston leadership Council Leadership Excellence award presented to Rusty Graham, and The Executive Council Dan Hoyt Memorial Leadership Award, presented to Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick.

State Representative Jim Murphy represents District 133, West Houston. First elected in 2006, Murphy serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Corrections and sits on the Ways & Means Committee. Murphy also serves as Floor Leader for the House Caucus. Murphy has been recognized by the Texas Association of Business, Texas Conservative Coalition, National Federation of Independent Businesses, Texas Chemical Council, and the Texas Conservative Roundtable for his work in the 84th Legislative session. Murphy grew up in District 133 and graduated from Strake Jesuit and UT Austin.

The Houston West Chamber of Commerce is located in West Houston, including the Galleria area, Spring Branch, Memorial City, and the Energy Corridor. It is home to approximately 8,000+ businesses with more than 100,000 employees. HWCOC is one of the most active chambers in the Houston area with 914 members.
