Office of Rep. Mary González Collects and Distributes More Than 13,000 Items For Third Annual Gather Together With Thankful Hearts: Canned Food Drive
El Paso, TX -- The Office of Texas State Representative Mary González is excited to announce the results of their Third Annual Gather Together with Thankful Hearts: Canned Food Drive. This initiative consisted of a competition between all the schools in the Clint, Fabens, Tornillo, San Elizario, and Socorro school districts, with the elementary, middle, and high school class that donated the most nonperishable items rewarded with a pizza party sponsored by Representative Gonzalez. The competition was meant to encourage community participation in ensuring that everyone in the district has a chance for a special Thanksgiving.
To that end, The Canned Food Drive was able to collect and distribute more than 13,000 canned goods to local food pantries! Because of the incredible student participation, the Drive was such a success that extra volunteers and trucks were needed to pick up all the canned goods from participating area schools.
WHAT: 3rd Annual Gather Together With Thankful Hearts: Canned Food Drive
WHO: State Rep. Mary González, other members of the District 75 Community
WHEN: November 20-24th, 2015
“Approximately 22% of Texas children under the age of 18 are food insecure, which is the highest such rate in the country. This is a stark figure, and for this reason, I am exceptionally grateful to all of those that donated food to make sure that everyone in our community has a chance for a special Thanksgiving,” González said.
