Representative Price Statement regarding House Select Committee on Mental Health
Austin, TX --- Today, Representative Four Price issued the following statement regarding the recent naming of the House Select Committee on Mental Health:
“The assembly of a singular committee to closely examine the current state of mental health care in Texas provides an excellent opportunity to make salient recommendations to our House colleagues in advance of the 2017 regular session. I commend Speaker Joe Straus for his visionary leadership in forming one committee dedicated to studying, holistically and in depth, Texas’ mental health system and to making integrated mental health care recommendations. I thank Speaker Straus for his confidence and trust in my ability to lead this significant public policy endeavor.
Mental health issues are coming more and more out of the shadows, as well they should. The delivery of mental health care services directly or indirectly impacts almost every Texan. I am proud that the Texas House of Representatives has made mental health policy a top priority in recent legislative sessions. More work needs to be done, and I look forward to this select committee being another catalyst for advancing the progress of mental health care.
A host of policy issues are associated with mental health in Texas. In the coming weeks, I will reach out to each member of the committee to obtain their valuable input into what we, as a committee, should consider and prioritize in preparation of the committee convening in 2016. Also, I invite the public, including the numerous state and local mental health stakeholders, to share their thoughts with me at firstname.lastname@example.org. My staff and I look forward to getting to work on this new Select Committee.”
