FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 10/26/2015
Constitutional Amendments on the November Ballot; Amendments No. 6-7
Austin, TX - State Representative James White encourages Southeast Texans to inform themselves, along with their family and friends, about the upcoming constitutional amendments on the November ballot. It is crucial for citizens to know how these referendums will affect their households, communities, and our State.
The sixth constitutional amendment, also known as Proposition 6, proposes the right to hunt, fish, and harvest wildlife, including by use of traditional methods, in the Bill of Rights of the Texas Constitution. This right would be subject to laws and regulations intended to conserve and manage wildlife and to preserve the future of hunting and fishing. The proposed amendment would establish hunting and fishing as the preferred method of managing and controlling wildlife in Texas.
Proposition 7 proposes to dedicate a portion of revenues from the state sales and use tax and the tax imposed on the sale, use, or rental of a motor vehicle, to the State Highway Fund (SHF). Under current law, these funds would be deposited to the General Revenue Fund. Money deposited to the SHF is intended to be used only to construct, maintain, or acquire rights-of-way for public roadways other than toll roads; or to repay certain transportation-related debt. Voters in need of more information regarding Proposition 7 can visit http://txdot.gov/government/legislative/state-affairs/ballot-proposition-7.html.
"These two amendments will be on the ballot on November 3rd. I ask that Southeast Texans visit www.VoteTexas.gov to learn more about these amendments," said Rep. White.
