FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 10/19/2015
Constitutional Amendments on the November Ballot; Amendments No. 3-5
Austin, TX - State Representative James White encourages Southeast Texans to inform themselves, along with their family and friends, about the upcoming constitutional amendments on the November ballot. It is crucial for citizens to know how these referendums will affect their households, communities, and our State.
The third constitutional amendment, also known as Proposition 3, proposes to repeal the requirement for the Comptroller of Public Accounts, the Commissioner of the General Land Office, the Attorney General, and any other officers elected statewide to reside in Austin, TX. Under current law, these statewide elected officers are required to reside in the capital of the State of Texas while in office. Of note that, this amendment would not apply to the residency requirement for the Governor.
Proposition 4 authorizes the legislature to permit professional sports team charitable foundations to conduct charitable raffles. Additionally, any law enacted by this provision may only allow charitable raffles to be conducted at games hosted at the home venue of the professional sports team associated with a professional sports team charitable foundation.
Proposition 5 authorize counties with a population of 7,500 or less to perform private road construction and maintenance. Currently, the threshold is set for counties with a 5,000 total population. Counties must also impose a reasonable charge for the work planned.
"These three amendments will be on the ballot on November 3rd. I ask that Southeast Texans visit www.VoteTexas.gov to learn more about these amendments," said Rep. White.
