FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 09/28/2015
Proposed Constitutional Amendments in Upcoming November Ballot
Austin, TX - Texans will go to the polls on November 3rd to consider several proposed amendments to the state Constitution. Amendments to the state Constitution must be voted on and passed in both the House and Senate but can only go into effect when the majority of voters approve them at the ballot. This is a mechanism set in place to protect the state Constitution from changes not approved by the citizens of Texas. After all, in our system of government the people are sovereign and a constitution is a compact agreed among the citizens to form a government. All proposals on the upcoming ballot have been approved by the Legislature for consideration by voters.
Rep. James White urges all Southeast Texans to be aware of these very important items on the ballot. Over the next few weeks, Rep. White will send out short articles regarding each of the 7 constitutional amendments.
Southeast Texans are urged to sign up to vote in the upcoming election if they have not done so already. Citizens may register to vote at this address: http://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/voter/reqvr.shtml. For those wanting to be informed on these proposals, the Secretary of State has information available toll-free at 1-800-252-VOTE (8683) or online at www.VoteTexas.gov.
