Jefferson County Bar Association to Host Free Legal Advice Clinic for All US Vets
Austin, TX - State Representative James White encourages Southeast Texas U.S. military veterans to attend a free legal advice clinic hosted by the Jefferson County Bar Association (JCBA) on August 22nd, 2015. This legal clinic will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Lumberton Fire & EMS station located at 2228 County Lane Dr. in Lumberton, Texas. The JCBA has helped 488 veterans through this program's services so far and are honored to continue it for those who have bravely served and sacrificed for their country.
The clinic is free of charge to any veteran or spouse of a deceased veteran from Jefferson, Hardin, Orange, Chambers, or Liberty counties. Adjusted eligibility guidelines require our military veterans to have an income level up to 200 percent above the poverty level to qualify for services. In addition, if a veteran needs legal representation and meets eligibility guidelines, the JCBA staff can work to assign a pro bono attorney to work on a case or assist to find an attorney at a reduced fee.
Legal advice is offered for divorces, child custody, child support, bankruptcy, consumer/contracts, wills, estate planning, social security, employment, foreclosures, housing, and other legal issues.
JCBA encourages all who attend to bring paperwork relevant to their case such as copies of all pertinent claims, correspondence, and rulings from the courts, agencies, or Veterans Affairs. For those seeking veteran benefits or a discharge upgrade, attendees are asked to bring a copy of their DD214 and any evidence related to the claim.
