Giddings Honors the Six "Profiles in Leadership"
Austin - Yesterday Representative Helen Giddings (Dallas) recognized six tireless champions of public service from the Dallas-area with the "Profiles in Leadership" award. Devoted to personal sacrifice, each honoree was acknowledged for his or her countless hours of behind-the-scenes work and contributions to our city and state.
Though "they may be activists, philanthropists, professionals, or community leaders," Giddings explained, "they are distinguished by the way they gravitate into critical support roles where there would otherwise be a void."
The honorees included; Mr. Tom Dunning, Mr. Richard Knight, Dr. Charles Ku, Ms. Regina Montoya, Mr. Pete Schenkel, and Mr. Jim Washington. Fulfilling in a wide variety of service positions across Dallas, each "Profiles in Leadership" award recipient has responded to the diverse needs of our community with resolute dedication to the betterment of the quality of life for even our most disadvantaged citizens. Shunning the spotlight and scratching hours of private time off their calendars as a result of their loyalty to the public good, each honoree exemplifies a model of servant leadership that too often goes overlooked.
Official resolutions of the Texas House of Representatives were adopted and presented to all of the honorees. They were also introduced to the members of the Texas Senate earlier yesterday morning.
"They don't expect a 'thank-you' or an award," said Giddings, as she addressed her colleagues before the House chamber, "but today I'm asking you to share in acknowledgement and thanks, as we present them with resolutions and declare them our '2015 Profiles in Leadership.'"
Representative Helen Giddings (District 109) serves the cities of Dallas, DeSoto, Cedar Hill, Glenn Heights Hutchins, Lancaster, Wilmer as well as part of Duncanville.
