Representative Mary E. González Addresses District Interests in the Legislature
AUSTIN, TX – This week, House Bill 988 and House Bill 2879, both authored by State Rep. Mary E. González, were voted out of the Texas House of Representatives. Additionally, Senate Bill 193, the companion to the Representative's House Bill 67, was voted out of the Texas Senate and has now been sent to the Governor.
• House Bill 988 directs the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department to carry out a study to examine the need for and feasibility of a visitors center at Hueco Tanks State Park & Historic Site. This bill would allow the surrounding community to be involved in the planning and development of the visitor's center.
• House Bill 2879 is the first step towards solving a land development problem that El Paso county and Horizon City have faced for years, and this bill will hopefully lead to the opening of 54,000 acres east of Horizon City for sale or development.
• House Bill 67 creates a specialty license plate for recipients of the Soldier's Medal, the Navy and Marine Corps Medal, the Airman's Medal, and the Coast Guard Medal.
"Hueco Tanks is important to my community, and it deserves to be preserved and appreciated as a cultural heritage landmark," Rep. González said. "House Bill 988 will promote communication and collaboration between Texas Parks and Wildlife and members of our community, including the Ysleta Del Sur Pueblo, and I look forward to the potential positive impact a visitor's center can bring."
With 23 days left in the 84th Legislative Session, State Rep. Mary E. González has passed 10 bills out of the Texas House so far.
