REP. LUCIO III LAYS OUT FAMILY LAW BILLS IN HOUSE COMMITTEE

AUSTIN: Rep. Eddie Lucio III laid out House Bills 1825 and 1827 in the Juvenile Justice and Family Issues Committee today. The bills both aim to clean up certain statutes in the Texas Family Law Code in order to make family law proceedings and instructions easier to understand. HB 1825 changes all references to "primary" school in the Family Code to "elementary" school in order to clarify and make sure prekindergarten is included. HB 1827 is also a housekeeping measure that seeks to remove any question about the validity of digitized signatures in family law suits.

“These bills will update the Family Law Code in order to keep up with changing times,” Rep. Lucio said. “It is important that our families have as smooth a time as possible when dealing with the laws at hand.”

Rep. Lucio also has three other family law bills that have passed committee and are waiting to be heard on the House Floor. HB 1824, HB 1826, and HB 2411 are also bills that attempt to clean up family law codes.

“If we can help our families even in the slightest by clarifying statutes, then I want to make sure that happens,” Rep. Lucio said. “That is what these bills aim to do.”
