ANCHIA HOLDS PRESS CONFERENCE AND COMMITTEE HEARING ON CLIMATE CHANGE AND A PLAN FOR GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS REDUCTION
(Austin) Today Rep. Rafael Anchia (Dallas) will hold a press conference on climate change, followed by a hearing in the Committee on International Trade and Intergovernmental Affairs, where there will be invited testimony from experts such as Rear Admiral Neil Morisetti, a retired senior British Royal Navy officer who is an Honorary Professor and Director of Strategy at University College London's Science, Technology, engineering and Public Policy Department.
“Ninety-seven percent of climate scientists agree that climate-warming trends over the past century are very likely due to human activities, " says Rep. Anchia. “The concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere are now greater than they have been for at least 800,000 years, and the current rate of carbon dioxide accumulation in the atmosphere is at least an order of magnitude greater than the natural rate that prevailed prior to the rise of human civilizations."
Admiral Morisetti has this to say about climate change: "The impact of a changing climate will affect all of us, wherever we live in the world; it poses a threat to our national security and well-being. Management of the risks posed is essential and that requires policies tailored as much to meeting the needs of the local community as the global world."
