Texas House of Representatives Passes a Balanced Conservative Budget
Austin, TX - The Texas House of Representatives passed House Bill 1 and took the first step to finalizing a fiscally conservative and balanced budget for the next biennium. This budget is one that has dramatically reformed state government by increasing transparency, and addressing the needs of our growing state while staying true to the constitutional spending cap. HB 1 invests significant resources in public schools, boosts the formula for funding higher education, and invests additional general revenue in transportation. The budget also promotes border security and public safety two very vital functions that handle the emerging issues in the state. In addition, HB 1 accomplishes these tasks by limiting overall spending growth to less than what is necessary to account for population and inflation increases.
"It is our job as state lawmakers to pass a conservative budget that funds core government services and leaves billions of dollars under the cap to provide tax relief to Southeast Texas small businesses and families," said State Representative James White.
Following this vote, the Texas House will send HB 1 to the Texas Senate for consideration. The House and Senate leaders will negotiate their differences in a conference committee before sending the final version to all members of the Legislature for final approval.
