FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 03/12/2015
Representative Mark Keough Appoints Cadet Mitchell Clarke of The Woodlands High School to the Texas Armed Forces Scholarship Program.
Austin TX, —Today I am honored to announce the appointment of Mitchell Clarke a senior at The Woodlands High School, to the Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program. He is an accomplished young man and a role model to current students and future generations. His leadership and energy has propelled him to the second highest command over the 180 cadets in the Air Force Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps at The Woodlands High School. In this leadership role, he has successfully tackled many difficult tasks, while keeping his focus on encouraging the very best in his fellow cadets. He has proven himself to be a distinguished leader to whom fellow cadets and students are drawn.
Equally, as a student, Mitchell has demonstrated his motivation to excel at every level. He challenged himself academically by taking AP World History, AP Statistics, AP Computer Science, AP English Language and Composition, AP Calculus BC, AP English . He achieved a very high SAT score placing him in the 94th percentile nationally among all students who took the test.
General Charles Krulak, the 31st Commandant of the U.S. Marine Corps once said. "Excellence doesn't just happen. It must be forged, tested, and used. It must be passed down, and woven into the very fabric of our souls, until it becomes our nature." I whole heartedly concur and for that reason I appointed Mitchell Clarke to the program. I look forward to his many years of accomplishments that lie ahead. I know he will make Montgomery County, The Woodlands, The Woodlands High School, and our Nation proud of his character and service.
The Texas Legislature created the Texas Armed Services Scholarship Program (TASSP) to encourage students to participate in Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) programs at civilian colleges. A student must meet specific eligibility criteria in order to receive an initial award. In addition to the eligibility criteria, a student must enter into an agreement requiring a four year commitment as a member of the Texas Armed Forces or a commissioned officer in any branch of the armed services of the United States.
It is therefore my honor to appoint Mitchell Clarke of The Woodlands upon graduation from The Woodlands High School to the Texas Armed Forces Scholarship Program. Please join me in congratulating Mitchell Clarke on this prestigious award.
Representative Mark Keough represents District 15, which encompasses the southern portion of Montgomery County including the cities of Shenandoah, Oak Ridge North, The Woodlands Township, and Rayford Road Corridor.
