Rep. Poncho Nevárez Appointed Vice-Chair of Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee
Austin, TX -- Speaker Joe Straus announced committee assignments late Wednesday afternoon. Representative Poncho Nevárez was assigned to the Local and Consent Calendars Committee, Natural Resources Committee, and named Vice-Chair of Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee.
The Local and Consent Calendars Committee determines the priority of local bills and resolutions for floor consideration. The Natural Resources Committee has jurisdiction over all matters pertaining to the conservation of natural resources including the appropriation and allocation of all water in the state. The Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee is charged with all matters pertaining to law enforcement, crime, terrorism response, and disaster mitigation. Rep. Nevárez is looking forward to serving as Vice-Chair of the committee alongside Chairman Rep. Larry Philips.
