American Red Cross Launches Two Great Campaigns

Austin, TX - The American Red Cross has launched two great campaigns that Southeast Texans should be aware of. The first is a campaign to reduce home fire deaths and injuries and the other is the Pillowcase Project for students.

The first campaign aims to reduce deaths and injuries from home fires by as much as 25% over the next five years. This campaign seeks to increase the use of smoke alarms in neighborhoods with higher numbers of home fires and encourage all Americans to practice their fire escape plans. Texans can visit redcross.org to find out more about how to protect themselves and their loved homes from fires.

The Pillowcase Project is geared for 3rd-5th grade students and seeks to teach children the science of hazards by empowering them to take action preparing for emergencies. The Red Cross hopes that this will encourage and empower students to help create a prepared community by sharing what they have learned with families and friends. For more information on the project visit redcross.org/prepare/location/school/preparedness-education.

State Representative James White encourages adults and children to take advantage of these two campaigns launched by the American Red Cross. In addition to these campaigns, the American Red Cross is also available to aid with disaster response, preparedness information and training, health and safety training, blood services, emergency communications, financial assistance re-integration and veterans services for the armed forces, and other services through the help of their volunteer led organization.
