Rep. Romero Statement on Filing House Bill 1634: The Texas Employee Empowerment Act
AUSTIN, TX – Today, Representative Ramon Romero, Jr. (Fort Worth) filed House Bill 1634: the Texas Employee Empowerment Act. This bill will create a tax credit program for employers that pay the franchise tax by providing a credit to businesses enabling them to offer their employees opportunities for postsecondary education.
“This legislation is about giving smart tax relief to businesses in order to provide adult education in areas that need it the most,” states Romero. “Businesses will be given the power to invest in their most important resource -- human capital -- and employees will receive the benefits of a wide range of postsecondary education. This bill truly is a win-win for all parties involved.”
Rep. Romero also filed three other bills: HB 1630, HB 1632, and HB 1633. HB 1630 is a transparency initiative that prohibits governmental entities from entering into settlement agreements of over $30,000 when a non-disclosure clause is involved. HB 1632 clarifies and modernizes the election code regarding an application of a ballot to be voted by mail. HB 1633 requires notification from the Railroad Commission to the Texas Department of Transportation when an oil or gas well is drilled within 50 yards of an easement held by TXDOT. This legislation is needed to improve communication about drill sites and allow for the department to receive notice when sites are planned that could impact future planning of our roads and transportation infrastructure.
