REP. TAN PARKER NAMED CHAIRMAN OF THE HOUSE COMMITTEE ON INVESTMENTS AND FINANCIAL SERVICES
(Flower Mound, Texas) Today Representative Tan Parker was appointed Chairman of the important House Committee on Investments and Financial Services. The committee has oversight over matters pertaining to the state banking system, savings and loan associations, the regulation of securities and investments, identity theft and other financial issues. Additionally, several state agencies must report directly to the committee, such as The Finance Commission of Texas, the Texas Department of Banking, the Texas Public Finance Authority and others.
“The handling of our state’s banking, lending and borrowing issues are very critical to our long term success and I cannot express how humbled I am to receive this key appointment,” Parker stated. “Make no mistake, Texas weathered the recent economic downturn much better than most states, in part, because of our strong banking and lending systems, and I intend to keep business and consumer confidence high as we move to not just maintain our current strengths but also look for new ways to better serve Texans.”
This session the Investments and Financial Services Committee will be charged with many important tasks pertaining to financial services in Texas. It will be their responsibility to ensure the coordination and accountability of state financial institutions, guarantee that they operate in a sound and responsible manner and make certain that Texas maintains a safe and competitive financial services system. In addition to this Chairmanship, Parker was also appointed to sit on the House Ways and Means Committee, the Redistricting Committee and the Select Committee on State and Federal Power and Responsibility.
In closing, Parker added, “Being at the forefront of such critical issues as managing our state’s financial services, handling our tax policies and ensuring that Texas is well prepared for our next redistricting process are tremendous responsibilities and I intend to use these appointments to keep Texas the best place to live, work and raise a family.”
Serving in his 5th term in the Texas Legislature, Representative Parker is focusing his efforts on economic development, job creation, strengthening border security, promoting fiscally responsible government spending, providing a strong education system, enhancing public safety and protecting family values. In addition to his committee assignments, Representative Parker also serves as the Chairman of the House Caucus.
