Representative Mary E. González Files Bill to Enable Establishment of Stormwater Control Planning Authorities
Austin, TX - Representative Mary E. González filed House Bill 995 today. This bill is aimed at addressing the devastation resulting from storms in the Lower Valley and throughout El Paso County through the creation of a Stormwater and Recapture Planning Authority. This entity would be authorized to coordinate and adopt long-range master plans to facilitate development and management of integrated storm water projects and facilities in affected areas in El Paso County.
"This bill is the first step towards addressing an issue that impacts families and homeowners not only in the Lower Valley, but throughout El Paso County," stated Representative González. "Developing a master plan allows us to take a proactive stance on flooding in our county, instead of reacting to one crisis after another every time it floods."
In 2013, mudslides and heavy rains caused intense damage over a widespread area.
