Rep. Ed Thompson Takes Oath of Office for 84th Texas Legislature
Austin, TEXAS – Today Representative Ed Thompson took the oath of office to serve his second term as State Representative for House District 29. Joined by his loving family, Rep. Thompson was sworn in for the 84th Legislature alongside fellow members of the Texas House of Representatives.
"I am truly honored to serve another term at our state’s Capitol in Austin,” Thompson stated after the ceremony. "Texas made great strides in 2013, and I am eager to see what all we can get accomplished in the next 139 days.”
Rep. Thompson will be focusing efforts on issues impacting District 29, with a special emphasis on transportation, education, and border security. Thompson stated that improving our public education system by providing school districts with more local control is of paramount importance. Thompson also referenced the need to strengthen the state’s transportation infrastructure and ensure our roads and drivers are safe. He added that the Legislature must work to ensure our border with Mexico is secure, as the federal government has abdicated its responsibility to keep our borders safe.
“As Texas legislators only meet every two years, this is a critical time for our state,” explained Thompson. “I am committed to working for the good folks of District 29 to ensure their needs are met.”
The Texas Legislature meets for 140 days, and the 84th Legislature will close on June 1, 2015.
Visitors to the Texas Capitol are encouraged to stop by Rep. Thompson’s office in the Capitol Extension, room E2.506. Additionally, constituents may reach the office via telephone at 512-463-0707 and email at District29.Thompson@house.state.tx.us.
Elected in November of 2012, Representative Thompson represents the northern portion of Brazoria County including Alvin, Brookside Village, Hillcrest, Iowa Colony, Liverpool, Manvel, and Pearland.
