Meets with City and County Leadership in Preparation for 84th Legislative Session
Austin, TEXAS – This week, Representative Ed Thompson and his staff met with various offices throughout District 29 to discuss priorities for the 84th Texas Legislative Session, set to begin January 13, 2015. The purpose of the district trip was to meet with constituents and community leaders, hear local issues impacting the district, and prepare for the upcoming legislative session.
Rep. Thompson was able to meet with more than fifteen local groups, including city government, local law enforcement, chambers of commerce, city convention and visitors bureaus, higher education administration, local school superintendents, and economic development representatives. Each meeting provided insight on the individual concerns and obstacles faced by the district’s businesses and residents, and gave Rep. Thompson’s Austin staff the opportunity to connect and meet face-to-face with area individuals they might not have had the opportunity to otherwise.
“I was elected and sent to Austin to serve the people of District 29, and keeping an open channel of communication to the needs of my district is of the utmost importance to me,” Rep. Thompson stated. “I’m so appreciative these offices took time out of their busy schedules to meet my staff in person and voice the concerns of our community.”
The tour provided insight on the issues facing District 29, including water and transportation infrastructure, public safety, education, and growth-planning. “I am a firm believer in ensuring local entities have local control,” said Thompson. “These folks know what they need to succeed in the community, and I am here to represent those needs at the state level.”
The 84th Texas Legislature will convene on January 13, 2015 at the State’s Capitol in Austin, Texas. Representative Thompson will be serving his second term in the Texas House of Representatives serving District 29 which includes Pearland, Manvel, Alvin, Brookside Village, Iowa Colony, Hillcrest, Rosharon, and Liverpool.
