Rep. Mary E. González to host Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Informational Workshop
El Paso, Texas– The Office of State Representative Mary E. González, along with the Law Office of Danny Razo, will be hosting a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Informational Workshop (DACA) on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at the El Paso Community College Mission Del Paso Campus Cafeteria from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM.
On June 15, 2012, President Obama signed a memo calling for deferred action for certain undocumented young people who came to the U.S. as children and have pursued education or military service here. Applications under the program which is called Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (“DACA”) began on August 15, 2012, and the program continues today.
Local nonprofit organizations will be present at the workshop to talk about Deferred Action. Representatives from El Paso Community College will be present to speak about the TheDream.US Scholarship, which is a scholarship program specifically designed for DREAMers who have DACA or TPS (Temporary Protected Status) approval and who, without financial aid, cannot afford a college education. Immigration attorneys Danny Razo, Michelle Martinez, and Lorena Gutierrez will be available to answer questions. This event is free to the public.
"Both DACA and TheDream.US Scholarship are important programs that could benefit residents of House District 75," González said. "This is a great opportunity for members of the community to come and learn more about these programs, and to become familiar with existing opportunities for themselves and their families."
