Rep. Bobby Guerra to Host Transportation Infrastructure Initiative
Held in Edinburg on August 27
McAllen, TX – State Representative R.D. "Bobby" Guerra (McAllen) will host key state lawmakers for an informative discussion with the public on Wednesday, August 27 at noon. It will be an open dialogue concerning Proposition 1 (the Texas Transportation Funding Amendment) and the critical infrastructure issues currently facing Texans, with a Q&A session from the press and public to follow.
The panel will feature principle authors of Prop. 1 Senator Robert Nichols (Jacksonville) Chairman of Senate Transportation Committee and State Rep. Joe Pickett (El Paso) Chairman of House Select Committee on Transportation Funding. Prop. 1, which will be on the November 4 general election ballot, supports investment in new highways, transportation construction and maintenance by tapping into the Rainy Day Fund. In an effort to be proactive and responsive to the public, Representative Guerra reached out to city officials, local stakeholders, chambers of commerce, advocacy groups and other public officials to coordinate a meaningful discussion with authors of Prop. 1.
“Transportation does more than get us to and from work. It is the backbone of our state’s economy. Today, our region is one of the fastest growing populations in the country. In addition to population increase, Texas trade volume continues to grow strongly, making us a top global competitor. We can no longer afford to ignore the congested roads, aged bridges, and dilapidated infrastructures we encounter daily. For the future of the Texas economy and Texans’ quality of life, it is critical that our roads properly sustain this growing number of traffic along our trade corridors and ports of entry. The transportation funding initiative panel will serve to be a great opportunity for the public to hear from state officials, and make an informative and educated decision when it comes to voting in November. This critical constitutional amendment will have a profound effect on the long-term transportation and infrastructure needs for our citizens," stated Representative Guerra.
The panel will be held at noon at the Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance at 118 Paseo Del Prado, Edinburg, Texas 78539. Lunch will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. For media inquiries or additional information, e-mail Aisa.firstname.lastname@example.org.
