REP. RICK MILLER APPOINTED TO LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE TO REVIEW THE TEXAS LOTTERY AND TEXAS LOTTERY COMMISSION
Austin, TX --- Today, Representative Rick Miller was appointed to the Legislative Committee to Review the Texas Lottery Commission by the Honorable Joe Straus, Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives. The committee was created last year by the passage of House Bill 2197 which specified that the committee was to include five members of the House and five members of the Texas Senate.
“I am delighted and honored to be named by Speaker Straus to serve on the Legislative Committee to review the Texas Lottery and Texas Lottery Commission”, stated Rep. Miller. “I look forward to serving with my House and Senate colleagues in this capacity.”
The committee is charged to study charitable bingo and the distribution of charitable bingo revenue. Additionally, the committee will study the elimination of the state lottery, including a proposed schedule and potential effects. The committee will report its findings and recommendations to the Legislature no later than December 1, 2014.
“The House had a healthy and productive discussion about the Texas Lottery last year, and this committee will continue that discussion”, said Speaker Straus. Rep. Miller joins fellow Representatives Rep. Giovanni Capriglione of Southlake, Rep. Garnet Coleman of Houston, Rep. John Kuempel of Seguin and Rep. Senfronia Thompson of Houston as the appointed members of this committee.
