Rep. Mary González to Host Education Working Groups in El Paso and Austin

El Paso, TX – In an effort to bring stakeholders in Texas public education together to discuss the problems facing our education system, the Office of State Representative Mary Gonzalez is hosting Education Working Groups in El Paso and Austin.
Who: The Office of State Representative Mary E. González
What: Education Working Group – El Paso
When: July 26, 2014 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Where: Texas A&M AgriLife Research Center (1380 A&M Circle, El Paso, Texas, 79927)

Past attempts to address education policy in Texas have failed, leading Gonzalez to call for a different approach:
“When we approach education in this piecemeal way,” Gonzalez explains, “we are simply reacting to the unintentional results of each bill, instead of looking at the education system as a whole. Our goal is to break this mold and consider education comprehensively.”
“Texas ranks second in the nation for enrollment in elementary and secondary education, but 50th in those with a high school diploma. This is completely unacceptable. These Working Groups are key to bringing the best thinkers on education policy and practice together to identify problems, find solutions, and create a legislative agenda that ensures access to great public education for all.”
