Local Student Decorates Ornament for the Texas House Christmas Tree

Austin, TX - Recently, Janet and Brianna Huberty had the honor of placing the 2013 Ornament for District 127 on the Texas House Christmas Tree in the Chamber of the Texas House of Representatives at the Texas Capitol. The tree is set-up and decorated in December each year, and remains there through the holiday season for visitors to enjoy.

This year, the District 127 ornament was decorated by Carsen Hartung, age 11. She covered the bulb in bold red, white and blue stars and atop those, affixed three-dimensional, Western-themed items, such as a cowboy hat, boots and a lasso. Carsen then tied a striped ribbon on the ornament as a finishing touch.

"I used the red, white and blue stars and ribbon to express my pride as a Texan and an American. And we added the Western items to honor the heritage of our state," Carsen said when asked about her design for the ornament. Her ornament, along with the other District ornaments, can be viewed on the House of Representatives website at http://www.house.state.tx.us/resources/Ornament-Book-2013.pdf.

Janet Huberty, wife of State Representative Dan Huberty, was honored to present the ornament at the Texas Capitol. "My daughter, Brianna, and I were very privileged to present Carsen's beautiful ornament and place it on the Texas House Tree alongside the ornaments from the other districts. She did a wonderful job of creating an ornament that represented our community and displayed her Texas pride."

Speaker Joe Straus and his wife, Julie, invite each House member to provide a decorated ornament to showcase the distinct nature of their House district. The ornaments are placed on the Texas House Christmas Tree. This year, a 20-foot Virginia Pine tree supplied by Marshall Cathey of Elves Farm in Denison, TX, will be on display from December 4th through January 3rd.
