2014 "Heroes for Children" Applications Now Being Accepted
Austin, TX- Applications for the Texas State Board of Education 2014 "Heroes for Children" Awards are now being accepted. This annual award recognizes public school volunteers who have been strong advocates for Texas school children.
The State Board of Education (SBOE) established the Heroes for Children award program in 1994. Individuals who volunteer their time, effort, and support to public schools and students, and who advocate for students and public education in Texas are eligible for these awards. The awards are given annually in recognition of outstanding service and dedication to helping provide each Texas student with a meaningful, positive learning experience in school.
Any Texas resident who gives time, effort, service, and support to public schools and students, with the exception of elected officials and educational employees, can be nominated for the Heroes for Children Award. To nominate someone, download the nomination form, fill it out and return it the Texas Education Agency by the deadline.
Completed applications must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 30, 2014. Applications should be sent to: Heroes for Children Communications Division, Texas Education Agency, 1701 North Congress Avenue, Room 2-180 Austin, Texas 78701-1494. The Board recognizes fifteen Heroes for Children each year – one from each SBOE district. The Heroes for Children will be honored at the September 2014 SBOE meeting.
