Rep. Ed Thompson Receives the John Kelley Distinguished Service Award
Greater Houston Football Coaches Association Recognizes Thompson for 40 Years of Service
PEARLAND, Texas: State Representative Ed Thompson was recognized for his tireless service as a football referee at the Greater Houston Football Coaches Association (GHFCA) BBQ and Awards Presentation at the University of Houston Carl Lewis Center on Wednesday. Thompson received the John Kelley Distinguished Service Award for his service as a football referee and a member of the Houston Chapter of the Texas Association of Sports Officials (TASO) for forty years.
"It was quite an honor to receive the esteemed John Kelley Award,” Thompson said. “I have thoroughly enjoyed working with these folks over the past four decades, and am grateful for their tireless dedication to set positive examples and help mold student athletes into young leaders."
Thompson led the Houston Chapter of TASO twice as President, and also served as Vice President, Division I Representative, Division II Representative, and Division IV Representative. Thompson was a District 8 Representative on the State TASO Football Board, and was honored to officiate the Texas High School All Star game, the Bayou Bowl, and the 2005 Division I 4-A State Championship game between Highland Park and Marshall. Thompson retired from officiating in December of 2012.
Representative Ed Thompson serves the 29th District in the Texas House of Representatives representing Pearland, Manvel, Alvin, Brookside Village, Iowa Colony, Hillcrest, Rosharon, and Liverpool. Thompson serves on the House Committees on Special Purpose Districts and Environmental Regulation. A graduate of the University of Houston with a BBA in Finance, Ed and his wife Freddie live in Pearland where Ed is an insurance agent.
