Rep. Four Price Encourages Texans To Protect Themselves This Flu Season
Amarillo, TX --- As part of National Influenza Vaccination Week, State Representative Four Price has joined Texas pharmacists, health care organizations, and other legislators to encourage Texans to protect themselves against the flu by getting vaccinated. Peak flu season in Texas runs December through February.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 200,000 flu-related hospitalizations occur each year. Moreover, the flu costs an estimated $10 billion in direct medical expenses and $16 billion in lost earnings across our country. Health professionals agree that an annual flu vaccine is the first and most important defense against serious, contagious flu viruses.
"As we gather with friends and family this holiday season, I urge all Texans to take extra precautions to prevent the spread and contraction of the flu," Price said. "Consult your doctor about the flu vaccine and other ways to stay flu-free and healthy."
The Texas Department of State Health Services recommends that people six months old or older receive a flu vaccine, especially young children, pregnant women, those with chronic health conditions, and people 65 years and older.
