2013 Christmas Trees Arrive at the Texas Capitol
AUSTIN, TEXAS—This week, the Texas Christmas Tree Growers Association delivered the official 2013 Capitol Christmas trees to the south steps of the Texas State Capitol.
Patsy Spaw, Secretary of the Texas Senate, and Julie Straus, wife of Texas House Speaker Joe Straus, were on hand as Texas Christmas Tree Growers Association (TCTGA) President Claudette McNew delivered the trees to the Capitol’s south steps.
"Julie and I thank Claudette and Daniel McNew, Mike Walterscheidt, and the TCTGA for their continued contribution to Christmas at the Capitol,” said Speaker Straus. "The holiday season in our state Capitol is a festive time, and these Texas-grown trees will provide memories for all Texans who come to the Capitol this season."
"As President of the Texas Christmas Tree Growers Association, Daniel and I are thrilled to present a three beautiful, real Virginia Pine Christmas trees for Texans to enjoy throughout the holidays at our state Capitol," said TCGTA President Claudette McNew.
Claudette and Daniel McNew, owners of the McNew Star M Christmas Tree Plantation in Hunt County, Texas, delivered three 7 ft. Virginia Pines and then traveled by horse drawn carriage provided by Elaine Glass of Die Gelbe Rose Carriage to the south steps of the Capitol. The trees were then delivered to the House, Senate, and the Office of the Governor.

With assistance from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the State Preservation Board, a 21 ft. Virginia Pine was installed in the House Chamber, compliments of Marshall and Sharlote Cathey, owners of Elves Farm in Denison.
