REP. MUÑOZ PROUD TO RALLY PUBLIC SUPPORT FOR BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MONTH
MISSION TEXAS - October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Rep. Sergio Muñoz, Jr. is doing his part to raise awareness and support women who are facing breast cancer. With breast cancer the second leading cause of death in women, Rep. Muñoz is among South Texas leaders who are rallying support for breast cancer resources, both in the Texas Legislature and in South Texas events, such as the Fifth Annual Mission Pink Walk/Run for Breast Cancer Awareness, and the 7th Annual Friends With Helping Hands Cancer Walk-a-Thon.
"I am very proud to be part of these efforts to raise awareness of the issues surrounding breast cancer and the goal of early detection and treatment. I am committed to working on this cause and fighting the battle against cancer.” said Muñoz.
Recently, Muñoz completed the October 5th Mission Pink 5K with 3,500 fellow supporters, a program of Mission Regional Medical Center, which has previously raised many thousands of dollars to fund breast cancer research. Money raised from the event will be used to fund free digital screening mammograms to uninsured women over the age of 40.
"It was quite exciting to join hundreds of my constituents for this very important event, and to have the opportunity to address the crowd before the run/walk began. There is little that compares to the gratification of contributing to such a worthy cause," added Muñoz.
Rep. Muñoz is also scheduled to participate in the 7th Annual Friends With Helping Hands Cancer Walk-a-Thon this Saturday, 26 October. The Representative is encouraging anybody with free time to join him at the Pharr Elementary parking lot (500 E. Sam Houston in Pharr) for this very worthy event to benefit children with cancer, the Comfort House, and the Vannie E. Cook Cancer Center.
