Little Elm Graduate Awarded Texas Armed Services Scholarship
Rep. Pat Fallon Nominates Local Teen for ROTC Accolade, Announces Annual Program
Little Elm, TX-- State Representative Pat Fallon (Frisco) recently appointed Caelum Albrecht of Little Elm as the recipient of the inaugural Texas Armed Services Scholarship for House District 106.
“This scholarship program is a way to build up and encourage the next generation of our nation’s strongest leaders – our military,” said Fallon, a former ROTC cadet at the University of Notre Dame and officer in the United States Air Force. “Caelum is a dedicated young man, and I’m glad to help him pursue his goals of getting a solid education and serving as a Merchant Marine.”
Albrecht, son of Warren and Maria Albrecht of Little Elm, recently graduated from Little Elm High School in the top quarter of his class and plans to major in Maritime Transportation at Texas A&M Galveston this fall. “A&M Galveston is the first college I ever visited, and I knew I wanted to end up there or at A&M College Station,” said Albrecht. “From the time I was seven or eight, I was really interested in nautical archaeology and anything having to do with the ocean. A&M Galveston’s Maritime Academy is the perfect place for me.”
The Texas Armed Services Scholarship, administered by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, was created by the Texas Legislature in 2009 to assist promising students from throughout the state who are committed to education and service. It encourages young leaders to participate in Reserve Officer’s Training Corps (ROTC) programs at Texas institutions of higher learning and to become members of the Texas Army National Guard, the Texas Air Force National Guard, the Texas State Guard, the United States Merchant Marine force, or to become commissioned officers in the United States Armed Services. Each member of the Texas Legislature is able to appoint one qualifying student for the annual accolade.
