REP. RICK MILLER HONORS AND REMEMBERS THE FALLEN
Austin—Today Governor Rick Perry enacted legislation that will pay tribute and honor our fallen heroes and their families. This very important legislation, authored by Representative Rick Miller (Sugar Land), will have the Honor and Remember flag flown on designated days as well as upon the death of a Texas military service member killed in combat.
“It was my honor as a veteran myself, to ask the state of Texas to publically display this flag as a symbol of appreciation to those men and women who have given the ultimate sacrifice and to pay tribute to their families who they left behind” said Representative Miller. “The Honor and Remember flags design is distinctive, yet simple. Each detail on the flag symbolizes an important part of the sacrifice of those who have died.”
"A thirty year veteran of the United States Navy, this bill is very close and personal to me,” said Miller. Miller continued, "I've lost many close, personal friends over the years who died defending the honor and freedom we all enjoy. The Honor and Remember flag helps us to remember each of those men and women, those Texans, who have died for our county. It's a national effort and we want to make sure Texas is leading the way."
The enactment of this bill could not be more poignant on this Memorial Day. As President Ronald Reagan once stated “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same.”
Representative Miller is currently serving his first term as the State Representative for District 26. Miller is a member of the Defense and Veterans’ Affairs Committee and Elections Committee in the Texas House of Representatives.
