Mary E. González Honors San Elizario Artists, Brings Local Artwork to be Displayed at Texas Capitol
Austin, TX—Today, State Representative Mary E. González honored members of the local art community from San Elizario at the State Capitol. Artwork from the San Elizario Historic District will be displayed at the Texas State Capitol today, May 6th through Thursday, May 9th on the ground floor of the Capitol rotunda. The San Elizario Historic Art District has long been the center of artistic activity for the local community, which has been traced as far back to the 1750’s.
“It’s an incredible honor to showcase some of the artwork from my constituents here this week at the Texas Capitol. The San Elizario Art Historic District has deep-set roots in our region’s history and it’s a privilege share this important piece of the El Paso community with the rest of our state.”
Representative González honored local artist and San Elizario Historic Art District founder Al Borrego on the House Floor. Representative González is also currently in the process of applying to make San Elizario into a state-recognized cultural district through the Texas Commission on the Arts.
