QUI AT THE CAPITOL DAY
Texas House and Senate Honor Acclaimed Chef Paul Qui
AUSTIN, Texas – April 6, 2013 – On Monday, Representative Eddie Rodriguez and Senator Kirk Watson will recognize Chef Paul Qui from the floor of both legislative chambers. Qui will be lauded as a rising star for his work as a chef and restaurateur. Chef Qui will be presented with House Concurrent Resolution 78 by the 83rd Texas Legislature for his achievements including James Beard's 2012 "Best Chef, Southwest," title winner of Top Chef Season 9 and "Food and Wine" magazine's 2012 Empire Builder.
"I’m a fan of Chef Qui’s," said Representative Rodriguez. "Both professionally and personally. He was a great representative for Austin and Texas on national television and I know that he will continue to make us proud.”
Qui opened the first East Side King location in November 2009 in a trailer at Liberty Bar on East 6th Street in Austin that has expanded to include two additional trailer locations and a brick-and-mortar restaurant at Hole in the Wall featuring Asian-inspired street food. His flagship restaurant – Qui – is scheduled to open later this spring in East Austin.
“His East Side King trailers have raised the bar for Austin restaurants and I’m excited for Qui to join them in District 51.”
"It's really humbling for me to be honored,” said Chef Qui. “I owe Austin a lot, and I am very grateful for everyone's support."
"Austin has long been known for its creativity. The same forces that have made our city rightly famous for music and film talent are now boosting Austin as a culinary capital as well," Senator Watson said. "Paul Qui stands at the very forefront of that movement. He is a brilliant talent. His success is ours, and our success is his."
