Rep. González lays out bills to restore dairy farming to the House Agriculture Committee
Austin, TX— Today, Representative Mary González presented two bills to the House Agriculture and Livestock Committee that could restore the dairy farming industry to El Paso county.
HB 1080 removes prior restrictions to bring back the multi-million dollar dairy farming industry to El Paso county. HB 1081 requires a study to be conducted in order to update the previous information on its findings in El Paso county, along with a statement noting the fiscal impact that the dairy farms would create.
"My dairy farm legislation has received a large amount of local, statewide, and even national attention. I believe this has happened because there is not enough evidence to prove otherwise for this industry not to be here. Bringing dairy back to El Paso would enable our local farmers to diversify crops, and put the agricultural talents in our community to use," said González.
HB 1080 and 1081 has received support from the El Paso Times alongside the local community.
